Ezra Jack Keats was the author of The Snowy Day, Whistle for Willie, Goggles and other great picture books for children. At first, he illustrated books written by other authors. Later he wrote his own. One reason he wanted to write his own was because the books he illustrated were boring and not about things children really did. Another reason is that picture books never had African-American children as heroes. You can learn more about him here:
