What is Kwaanza?Kwaanza is based on an African harvest festival. During the seven days of Kwaanza, held between Christmas and New Years, families celebrate being a family and pass on African-American culture and tradtions. The word Kwaanza means Beginnings, and celebrants focus on seven principles they will emphasize during the year: unity, self-determination, collective work and responsibility, cooperative economics, purpose, creativity and faith.
